Today is a melancholy day, its snowing again! We've had more snow in New York this month than we've had in the last fifteen years. Global warming, I'm just saying. Anyway I'm straying again, sorry I do tend to do that. Like I was saying its snowing again and everyone is irritating me. So to that end my post today suites my mood, its about my irritation of buying books I wish I hadn't.
It starts out like any love story full of hope, anticipation only to have my hopes go down in flames. Like ex boyfriends they linger on my bookshelves taking up space. Taunting me, and that always burned me. Flash forward years later I got the idea to donate these books to a public library from a tv show. Yeah it gave me that warm fuzzy feeling, giving these books a home where they will be used and not end up in a landfill. Problem was aside from that fuzzy feeling it wasn't an even exchange. I was left with rabbit ears for pockets. And I thought to myself wouldn't it be great if there was a way to find a home for these books and get back some of my investment back. That's when I discovered half.com.
Selling my books to someone who wants them and get a few dollars its the American way. As I gained more knowledge I discovered other avenues, sites where you swap books with people. Unload the chaff on your bookshelves in an even exchange. Your trash maybe someone else's treasure and vice versa. Who ever came up with the concept of putting these sites on the Internet to reach the masses like myself. I want to show my appreciation with this shout out. Maybe introduce a few people to these sites that they never knew they existed.
Note worthy sites I've used myself swap.com , goodreads.com , to mention a few.
Disclaimer the honorable mentions I can't vouch for their service since I've never used them, but I wanted to give you options. Check them out kick their tires see if you like them.
Honorable mentions : book mooch , paperback swap
