Synopsis:

Car mechanic Mercy Thompson has always known there was something different about her, and not just the way she can make a VW engine sit up and beg. Mercy is a shapeshifter, a talent she inherited from her long-gone father. She's never known any others of her kind. Until now.

An evil is stirring in the depths of the Columbia River-one that her father's people may know something about. And to have any hope of surviving, Mercy and her mate, the Alpha werewolf Adam, will need their help..

First Look:  "Stefan makes him stay in. Mercy, you have to get outside." I'm tough and strong, and she was shaking with weariness and, likely, iron deficiency. I had no trouble staying right where I was. "Stefan " I bellowed again. A lot of things happened in a short period of time, so i had to to think of them later to put them together in proper order. Rachael sucked in a breath of air and froze, her hand on my arm abruptly holding on to me rather than pushing me away. But she lost her grip when someone grabbed me from behind and threw me onto the upright piano that sat against the wall..

Review:

I'd like to start by saying I'm a huge fan of of the Mercy Thompson series, and I maybe a little biased.
Having said that I will try to give a very impartial fair review. So here goes.

Book six of the series, the focus is the relationship between Adam Hauptam - the Alpha of the Columbia Basin Pack, and Mercy Thompson - the mechanic shifter coyote. Newly married and honeymooning in Columbia park camping along the Columbia River.Their first few days are uneventful but where Mercy goes trouble always follows. And after discovering her honeymoon destination was engineered by the fae. Mercy is suspicious of the dangers lurking in this serene, beautifully manicured park. Soon she gets her answer when out running she encounters someone hurt, and to her astonishment he's Native American Indian, this is where the fun begins. And by fun I mean discovery of the monster luring campers and killing them. That there are other walkers like her. Native American spirits are real ( the bear, the coyote, the thunder bird, the wolf, etc..) her lineage, her father.

Here's what I liked yes you guessed it the relationship between Adam and Mercy. Characters, characters are the life's blood of a story even if the the plot is crappy great characters make it ten times better.  We get to see them in a totally different setting, just the two of them, alone .  The chemistry between them is a joy to read. If you are a fan and have been following the series from the beginning you'll know Mercy has fought tooth and nail her feelings for Adam. So its nice to see Mercy is comfortable, and openly staking her claim to Adam. There's a lot of gushing that is to be expected when in love and just married. I loved the ease between them the tension that's always been part of their relationship, gone. It was almost like two different people that were finally told  their biggest secret, and found out they wanted the same thing each other. The pacing was fine no explosions every five mins but enough to keep your interest. Story setup is slow but from page ninety something until the end there are revelations, or something is happening.

What I didn't like was there wasn't enough exploration into Mercy's walker abilities, what she was capable of? does she develop any abilities?  Will she stop aging? How long will she live? and so on and so on. Also I wanted more interaction between her father and her. The ending was a little dry and Adam free I didn't like that. But even those negative didn't take away from the story. I'm giving River Marked a 4 out 5.

Rating: 14+ , NO cursing,
